Winner Of iCon Screensaver Contest Press Release Print E-mail
Wednesday, 18 February 2009

The winning screensaver was created by Roger Martinez,of Spain, and commemorates the sold out concert at London’s historic St. Mary-le-Bow church and the release of the band’s third studio album. It may be found and downloaded from www.johnwetton.com or this site (9.5MB QuickTime movie). Choosing the winner among many excellent entries submitted from around the world was difficult indeed and Mssrs Downes and Wetton both congratulate the winner and thank every participant for their creative time and enthusiasm.

The concert is a unique opportunity for 200 people to see the band in such a personal and celebrated setting; each will also have an opportunity to meet and greet the performers and will receive a pre-release version of the DVD resulting from the performance and a copy of the new CD. (iCon 3 CDs and DVDs will not be available at the show, but attendees will be provided with free copies via mail. CDs will be sent prior to March 13th with the DVD following before summer.)

Ticket Information and Important Show Information

This special performance sold out to enthusiastic fans prompting management to release a few extra tickets initially reserved for press. These tickets are available at  www.ticketweb.co.uk.  Search for “iCon”, “John Wetton” “Geoff Downes” or “Wetton-Downes’ iCon.”

It is important for all attendees to note that the performance will begin at six thirty pm SHARP and that doors will open at five thirty pm.

Fans and critics alike have looked forward to more from John Wetton and Geoffrey Downes, whose songwriting formed much of the fabric of 2008’s successful Asia reunion release, Phoenix.  They are happy to oblige with this special concert celebrating the release of the third iCon album and capping a short, well-received tour in Japan and Holland.

Performance will be filmed for DVD

Live performance has become a special treat for fans and the band is pleased to announce the filming of this live DVD to commemorate the release of the third album and celebrate their musical beginnings. Because both Mr. Wetton and Mr. Downes began their musical careers with the Church of England, performing in this very special environment is particularly meaningful to them.  They are delighted to perform in this historic, iconic church, presenting their music to an unusually small and intimate audience.

The band is thrilled to present classic iCon and Wetton-Downes tunes, plus songs from their heritage bands including King Crimson, UK, Buggles, Yes and ELO, as well as a premiere of new music from the eagerly anticipated upcoming third album which will be released worldwide through Frontiers.

Legendary stars and special guests join Wetton-Downes’ for album and performance

The pure power of Geoff Downes’ keyboards and John Wetton’s jaw-dropping voice and stellar bass playing are enhanced by an all-star lineup of musicians.

This album reunites Wetton with guitarist Dave Kilminster. The two worked together in the John Wetton band during the nineties, as well as in the short-lived, but highly distinguished band Qango. Kilminster is a renowned guitarist whose own reputation as a singer and songwriter has grown. Wetton and Kilminster are very much enjoying working together again.

Cellist Hugh McDowell once again joins the iCon family. He appeared on both prior albums, although 2009 marks the first time he will play live with the band. Well-known for having helped construct and develop the unique sound of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra), Hugh was an ever-present in that band's enormous and lengthy success, he also adds a special flavour to iCon.

Wetton says, “Hugh McDowell is an integral part of iCon’s organic personality. His presence in the music adds more than sonic embellishment – it changes the essential fingerprint of the music.”

Drummer Pete Riley has long been considered “one of the best drummers in rock” by those legends of rock who have worked with him ... and those who’ve simply watched him on stage. Riley is featured on Kilminster’s solo album and has toured with Kilminster as part of the Keith Emerson Band. He is well known throughout the world as an extraordinary musician in live and session work. Riley's skills span all types of music from rock to complex fusion and jazz.

The album and Holland/London performances will also feature acclaimed vocalist Anne-Marie Helder whose past work with Karnataka and current ventures with Panic Room, Mostly Autumn and her solo material have won her praise and a growing international  audience.
